Ph.D. in Economics, University of Chicago, 1997

CSIC Tenured Scientist

Research Lines

Hugo´s main research area is Monetary Economics. In particular he has worked on the monetary transmission mechanism from two perspectives. On the one hand, he has analyzed how the way monetary policy is implemented by central banks may influence the behavior of short term interest rates. On the other hand, part of his work deals with understanding how changes in the monetary policy stance affect economic activity through the provision of credit by financial intermediaries and the endogenous expansions and contractions of the balance sheets of banks.

Short Biography

Hugo earned his PhD in Economics from the University of Chicago in 1997. Since 2008, he has been a tenured scientist at the Institute for Economic Analysis (IAE-CSIC). Prior to that, he held academic positions at Universitat Pompeu Fabra and at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. He is currently the Director of the BSE Master Program in Macroeconomic Policy and Financial Markets.
