Research Lines

Ponsatí is a specialist in Game Theory and Public Economics, with interest in negotiations, bargaining, and voting. She has worked extensively on strategy, bargaining under incomplete information, timing games of concession and wars of attrition, collective decisions, taxes and redistribution. 

Short Biography

Clara Ponsatí joined the IAE-CSIC in 2001 and she served as director from 2006 to 2012. From 2015 to 2020 Ponsatí was Chair of Economics at the School of Economics and Finance at the University of St Andrews, where she was head of the school from 2015 to 2017. Previously she taught at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona from 1989 to 2001. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. She has had visiting appointments at Cambridge University, Georgetown University, the University of California at San Diego, and the University of Toronto. Ponsatí is a specialist in Game Theory and Public Economics, with interest in negotiations, bargaining, and voting. She has worked extensively on strategy, collective decisions, taxes and redistribution, with a distinguished publication record. She has also worked on fiscal federalism and has advised the Catalan government and the Scottish parliament on budgetary and tax affairs. From July  2017 until November 2017 she served as Minister of Education in the Catalan Government. From February 2020 to July 2024 she was a Member of the European Parliament, where she served in the Industry Technology Research and Energy and Economics and Monetary Affairs Committees.
