Research Lines
Martí's research focuses on economic growth, international trade, and macroeconomic aspects of economic development. He has explored topics such as structural change, the global income distribution, the effects of international production fragmentation, and the diffusion of technology across countries. His work often examines how technological advancements and trade dynamics impact economic development and income disparities.
Short Biography
Martí earned his PhD in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2011. After completing his doctorate, he held academic positions as an Assistant Professor at the Toulouse School of Economics and later at the Department of Economics at Northwestern University. He also served as a Senior Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and as an Associate Professor with tenure at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF). In September 2024, he joined the Institute for Economic Analysis (IAE-CSIC) as a Research Scientist. He is also an Associate Researcher at the Centre de Recerca en Economia Internacional (CREI), a Research Affiliate at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), and a member of the Human Capital and Economic Opportunity Global Working Group.
Martí has taught courses on economic growth and international trade at both undergraduate and graduate levels at Northwestern University, the Toulouse School of Economics, UPF and BSE's Master's programs. He has also supervised numerous PhD theses, mentoring students who have gone on to secure positions in academia, industry, and policy institutions.
Beyond research and teaching, he actively contributes to the academic community by serving on program committees, such as the Econometric Society World Congress and the European Economic Association Annual Congress, and organizing research conferences, such as workshops at the Barcelona Summer Forum and the NBER Economic Growth Winter Meeting.
