Krauss, Alexander

Alex’s main research is in the science of science, economics of science, and development economics. He studies questions of innovation and what drives breakthrough research. He examines the factors that trigger high-impact research, such as early-career factors that contribute to later prominence (like university ranking, publication venues, collaboration networks, researchers' age etc.) and the methods and tools that researchers apply. He also studies questions in development economics and environmental economics.

Alex joined the institute in 2022 as a Ramón y Cajal researcher and is also a Research Associate at the London School of Economics. Prior to this, he was a Marie Curie Fellow at the LSE and a Postdoctoral Fellow at University College London and University of Barcelona. He also worked for five years at the World Bank, mainly on public policies and reforms in areas such as health, poverty reduction, education and labour.
