Research Lines
I am applied theorist working on very diverse topics. I have also done empirical work and laboratory experiments.
Nowadays I focus on foreign influence in domestic policy (Aidt, Albornoz and Hauk, JEL 2021). Albornoz and Hauk (J Dev Econ 2014) proposes a theoretical model that reveals testable motives for foreign interventions. Aidt, Albornoz and Hauk (JEBO 2024) analyzes the effect of multiple influencers with diverging interests on rain forest preservation policies.
I was a pioneer contributer to the literature on the cultural transmission of preferences (Hauk and Sáez-Marti JET 2001). I advanced this literature by focusing on the supply side via schools, the television industry (Hauk and Immordino 2014) and by introducing the first model of cultural leaders (Hauk and Mueller 2015) into this setup. Currently, I am working on parenting styles and I am starting a new research line on gender and the law.
Short Biography
Before joining the Institute of Economic Analysis in 2006 I was an associate professor at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona and an assistant professor at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. From 2009 to 2011 I visited the Economics Department of the London School of Economics. I have been vice director of the IAE twice and currently the head of the gender committee. I also served on the gender committee of the Barcelona School of Economics (2021-2022) and on the academic program committee (2013-2017). From January 2015 to October 2017 I was an “expert” in The Agencia Estatal de Investigación (formally ANEP) for the field of ECO. I have been teaching on a yearly basis in the Master Program of the BSE or in the IDEA Master Program which I codirected during 2012-2013. My research has been published in general interest journals and top field journals like the Journal of Economic Literature, the Economic Journal, the Journal of Monetary Economics, the Journal of Economic Theory, the Journal of Development Economics among others. Together with Enriqueta Aragonés I organized the first Workshop for Women in Political Economics (Falset, June 2018) which gave rise to Women in Political Economics Network (https://sites.google.com/view/women-in-polecon).
