Research Lines
Most of Caminal’s research is in the field of Industrial Economics with a particular focus on dynamic oligopolistic competition, loyalty programs, and dynamic product diversity. He has also made contributions to the theory of coalitional bargaining, banking taxation and competition, regional transfers, and labor contracts. More recently, his work has expanded to the Economics of Languages, where he has studied both theoretically and empirically the impact of language skills and policies on market performance in cultural and media products, patterns of social interaction, identity, and political preferences.
Short Biography
Ramon Caminal obtained his PhD from Harvard University in 1987. He has been a member of the institute since 1989. He has taught at various institutions, including Autònoma of Barcelona, Barcelona School of Economics, Toulouse, Pompeu Fabra, and Oviedo. His current research areas are Industrial Economics and the Economics of Languages. He served as associate editor of the Journal of Industrial Economics, Journal of the European Economic Association, European Economic Review, Spanish Economics Review, and Moneda y Crédito. He has algo been a Research Fellow of CEPR, a member of the Executive Committee of EARIE, and manager (gestor) of the Economics program of Spain’s National Plan for Research and Development. In 2009 he was awarded the Premi Catalunya d’Economia.
