Short Biography

Esther Hauk joined the institute in 2006. Formerly she was an associate professor at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona and an assistant professor at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. From 2009 to 2011 she visited the economics department of the London School of Economics. She has worked in a wide range of topics: equilibrium refinements, experimental economics, industrial organisation, public procurement, mechanism design, corruption and the cultural transmission of preferences. Her more recent work is mainly in political economy where she has looked at different conflict situations. She has studied the relationship of the quality of political institutions and the resource curse, third party interventions in civil wars, nationalism and the clash of civilizations and the effect of immigration on the school system. She is also working on optimal policy with endogenous signal extraction.
